FAQ'S

ADMISSIONS.

1. When are the application forms available?
The application forms are available on the website from 01/01/2024 to 05/08/2024.

2. How can I obtain an application form?
The application forms can be obtained from the websitehttps://manetpune.edu.in or https://mituniversity.ac.in/ On clicking "Apply Now" Tab

3. What is the cost of the Prospectus?
The cost of prospectus is Rs. 1800/-. (Non-refundable).

4. Whether online application form is available?
Yes (No need to send any Hard copy).

5. Whether offline application form is available?
No. (Application form can be filled online only).

6. What Documents I Need while filling the online application form?
While filling the form, only following three soft copies are required:
  • Applicant Photo
  • Applicant Signature
  • Parent Photo
  • Parent Signature

7. Is any offline payment method available for online form?
Payment should be done online only. (Using Credit/Debit Card or Net banking or UPI).

8. I have appeared for class 10+2 exam this year. The results are not yet declared. Can I still fill up the form?
Yes, appearing candidates can also apply, you can fill the application by selecting the Result awaited option for class 10+2 marks. It should be filled at the time of admission round.

9. I have secured 59.9% in PCM in the 10+2 examination, am I eligible to apply?
Sorry, you are not eligible.

10. I have secured 58% in PCM in 10+2 examination, but in 2019 I am appearing for the Improvement Examination, can I apply?
Yes, you can apply, but at the time of counseling you should produce the proof that you have secured 60% in PCM.

11. I have secured 58% in PCM in 10+2 examination, but in 2022 I am appearing for the Improvement Examination, can I apply?
Sorry, you are not eligible.

12. I scored a very high percentage in my 10+2 examination. Will this be taken into consideration for my admission?
At the time of admission round, interview performance, 10+2 marks and IMU-CET rank will be considered and also you have to carry your passport and medical fitness certificate from a D.G Shipping approved doctor only.

13. Could you please specify the counseling dates?
The counseling dates (admission rounds) according to PCM percentage of 10+2 Examination in batches, as detailed below:
Tentatively 2 nd week of June-2024.

14. Can my parents come with me to the campus during the interview / written tests? Is there accommodation available?
Parents are encouraged to come along with you to the campus during the interview.
It will be a good opportunity for them to see the campus and the type of life you are going to lead for the complete course duration.
Unfortunately, MANET cannot accommodate guests, but there are several convenient and reasonably priced hotels in the neighboring areas.

15. When I will know the confirmation of my admission?
Your admission will be confirmed only after Verification of original documents, successful Medical Test, Personal Interview and Payment of First Semester fees on the day of admission round.
After confirming candidate’s name in final admission, list displayed on college notice board will be considered as provisional admission*.

16. Is there any management / NRI quota?
No.

18. What is the eligibility criteria to get admission?
Courses:
  1. B.Tech Marine Engineering and B.Sc. Nautical Science (First Year)

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Qualifying IMU-CET is mandatory
    • Average PCM 60% in 12th Std., 50% in English either in 10th or 12th
    • Passport, Medical fitness certificate from D.G approved doctor.
  2. B.Tech Marine Engineering (Lateral Entry)

    Eligibility Criteria:

    • Diploma in Marine/Mechanical/Electronics/Electrical with aggregate 55% in final year of Diploma.
    • Passport, Medical fitness certificate from D.G approved doctor.

1. What courses does MANET provide?
MANET provides:
  • B. Tech Marine Engineering Degree Course (4 Years)
  • B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree Course (3 Years)
  • B. Tech Marine Engineering Degree Course ( Lateral Entry 3 Years)

2. Are the courses approved by the government?
Yes. Both the courses approved by Directorate General of Shipping, Govt. of India and affiliated to MIT-ADT University, a state govt. of university.

3. What is the difference between B.S. and B.E. /B. TECH.?
The difference is only in the nomenclature. All are Technical degrees.

4. Is MANET recognized?

MANET courses are approved by Directorate General of Shipping, Government of India, Mumbai. The B.Tech. Marine Engineering degree and B.Sc. Nautical Science degree is awarded by MIT Art, Design & Technology University, Pune.

5. After applying for B.Tech. Marine Engineering Degree Course, Can I change the choice to B.Sc. Nautical Science?
Yes, you can do on the day of admission round. However, your vision must be 6/6 without spectacles for admission to B.Sc. Nautical Science Course and you have to clear the eyesight test according to the norms.

6. Why B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree course is better than the Present Diploma in Nautical Science (DNS) course?

Marine Engineering course trains you for the engine side of the ship while the Nautical Science course trains you for the deck or navigation of the ship along cargo handling.

8. Which course is better – Marine Engineering or Nautical Science?
Both courses lead to rewarding careers in shipping industry. It is choice of individual to work on the deck or on engine side.

9. What is the difference between the salaries of Marine Engineers and Deck Officers?
Engineers as well as Deck Officers (Navigation) earn almost equally.

10. Is the profession safe for girls?
Yes, there are many successful woman seafarers across globe of foreign nationalities as well as Indians.

11. Does the Institute conduct GME course?
No.

2. How can I get Educational Loan?
MANET students are eligible for educational loans disbursed by banks. You may approach any bank of your convenience located in your native place.

3. How fees to be paid?
The fees have to be paid semester wise in February / August each year by ONLINE/OFFLINE mode. (Cash is Not Accepted.)

4. Does the institute provide scholarship to students?

MEDICAL FITNESS


1. What are the Medical fitness criteria for admission to B. Tech / B.Sc. Nautical course?

2. Can I provide medical certificate from my local doctor?
NO.
1)The candidates must get medical certificate from D.G. Shipping approved doctors only.
2)For D.G. Shipping approved doctors list refer website of D.G. Shipping and MANET.

3. Whether the eyesight vision 6/6 in both eyes is compulsory for B.Sc. Nautical course?
Yes, Candidates for the B.Sc. Nautical Science Course must have unaided 6/6 vision in both eyes without spectacles and there has to be no color blindness. Candidates in their own interest, it would be prudent to get the eyesight checked from a qualified Eye specialist as per the eyesight requirement of the courses. This will help candidates to avoid any last-minute embarrassment during the admission round.

4. Is the correction in eyesight by laser surgery allowed?
Yes, if it corrects your vision to 6/6 without glasses. It will be an individual’s decision if doctor recommends the same.

1.What is placement record of institute?

3. What career opportunities are offered by a Marine Engineering degree other than a career as a merchant mariner?
The candidates are educated in the various aspects of mechanical & electrical engineering providing them with shore based numerous opportunities in Industries & Educational field. With a B. Tech Marine Engineering degree candidate may go post-graduation courses including various shipping management courses and M.B.A as well.

4. What are the job prospects for B. Tech Marine Engineering Course?
On completion of B.Tech Marine Engineering Degree course from MANET & Modular courses the candidates is eligible to be appointed as a Junior Engineer (Trainee Marine Engineer) on Merchant Ships owned by Indian or Foreign Companies & can earn salary of about 65,000/- to 75,000 /- p.m. Then completion of the stipulated periods on board ship & passing Competency Examination conducted by D.G. shipping, then Marine Engineer becomes eligible to be posted by Chief Engineer with Emoluments of be around Rs.9,00,000/- p.m. and above. It takes approximately 6 to 7 years for a competent Junior Engineer to reach to the level of Chief Engineer. (All salaries are indicative; candidates may get more or less depending upon the recruiters)

5. What are the job prospects for B.Sc. Nautical Science Course?
On completion of B.Sc. Nautical Science Degree course from MANET and Modular courses the candidate is eligible to be appointed as a Deck Cadet (Trainee Navigating Officer) on Merchant Ships owned by Indian or Foreign Companies & can earn salary of about 45,000/- to 55,000 /-p.m. Then completion of the stipulated periods on board ship & passing Competency Examination conducted by D.G. Shipping, then Deck Cadet (Trainee Navigating Officer) become eligible to be posted by Captain with Emoluments of be around Rs.9,00,000/- pm and above. It takes approximately 6 to 7 years for a competent Deck Cadet to the level of Captain.(All salaries are indicative; candidates may get more or less depending upon the recruiters)

6. How long can one serve in Merchant Navy?
As per current DG Shipping regulations, subject to medical fitness, personnel up to 65 years of age can work on-board ships.


CAMPUS FACILITY


1. Are candidates allowed to have their vehicles on campus?
Candidates are not allowed to keep four / two-wheeler on campus. Bicycles may be used.

2. Are mobile phones and personal laptops allowed on campus?
Mobile phones & personal laptops are allowed on campus except in the academic area.

3. Is staying in hostel compulsory?
Yes. Both the courses are compulsorily residential courses.

4. What are the sports facilities on campus?

5. Can we visit the campus to see the facilities?
Yes. The working hours are 08:30 Hrs. – 04:30 Hrs. from Monday – Friday. You may visit the campus preferably with prior appointment. Campus tours are conducted when parents/candidates are called on admission round in the month of June.
